Two local railroad crossings will remain closed until Thursday.

The crossings at 12th Street and Aviation Boulevard have been closed for routine maintenance, said Robert Ledoux, spokesman for Florida East Coast Railway.

The closings are unrelated to All Aboard Florida, Ledoux said.

Crews will be working their way south, through St. Lucie and Martin counties, on similar projects, he said.

“It starts at one end of the railroad and ends at the other,” Ledoux said.

The repair work usually takes two to three days per crossing, depending on how large the crossing area is and how much work is necessary.

Message boards will alert drivers to upcoming crossing closings about two weeks in advance, Ledoux said.

“We usually don’t tell people two months ahead of time because they forget,” Ledoux said.

FEC — a freight railroad and sister company of All Aboard Florida — will share its right of way when AAF begins running its high-speed trains through the Treasure Coast. That service is to begin in late 2017.
