TCPalm: Man struck, injured by Brightline train in West Palm Beach

WEST PALM BEACH  — Authorities say a high-speed commuter train struck and injured a man.

The Palm Beach Post reports the man was struck Monday night while walking along the tracks with another man.

West Palm Beach police Sgt. Dave Lefont says the men heard the train's horn and tried to get out of the way but one was "grazed" by train. Police say the man only received minor injuries.

Since Brightline began test runs in January, its trains have struck and killed eight people, including six since January, when service began.

Brightline, however, emphasizes that its trains and grade-crossing did not malfunction, and that local law enforcement considers at least half of the deaths suicides or suspected suicides.

Brightline began service among Miami, Fort Lauderdale and West Palm Beach earlier this year, and is to begin full Miami-to-Orlando service in 2021…
