TCPalm: Indian River County’s challenge to Brightline well worth cost

It has been $4.56 per year for each Indian River County resident to stop Brightline/All Aboard Florida for the past four years (less than the cost of one pack of cigarettes).

Our County Commissioners have been brilliant in authorizing over $2.7 million for this legal fight.

Keith Kite's letter on Aug. 11 implores us to ask the commissioners to stop wasting taxpayer money — no more legal expenses.

Might he have some real estate benefit if Brightline begins operation?

If that does happen, the cost to the taxpayers for rail crossing improvement and increased annual expenses will be substantially more than our legal costs to date.

Then other immeasurable costs will begin, when 32 daily 110 mph trains, with whistles blaring, roar through: deaths at grade crossings, emergency vehicles stalled, home values degraded as well as the towns of Vero Beach and Sebastian…
