Jurors deliberating train derailment case

KNOXVILLE — It’s now up to a federal jury to decide whether a tank car company is responsible for a train derailment and chemical fire nearly three years ago resulting in the evacuation of some 5,000 Blount County residents.

Six Blount County residents are suing Union Tank Car Co. (UTC), which owned and manufactured the derailed car. They seek over $5 million in property damage and nuisance claims…
