Boca police ID man hit by Brightline train at crossing

BOCA RATON —A 90-year-old Highland Beach man has been identified as the person injured Wednesday when a Brightline train struck his car in Boca Raton.
Police say Benjamin Morelli was unable to get out of his vehicle before it was struck by a train at about 8 p.m. Wednesday near Camino Real and South Dixie Highway. He was taken to Delray Medical Center as a trauma alert. An update on Morelli’s condition was not available Thursday afternoon.
“We appreciate the emergency personnel who responded to the scene immediately,” a Brightline spokesperson said in a statement Thursday. “From our reports, the gates were functioning properly.”
