Rich Campbell: What if All Aboard Florida had included our region from the beginning?

I didn't see this coming.

I've been a staunch opponent of All Aboard Florida/Brightline, the Miami-to-Orlando passenger rail project, from day one. However, as the project has continued its slow but seemingly inexorable march to completion, I also have contended that our region should at least get a train stop.

I was elated to learn Fort Pierce officials recently had begun talks with All Aboard Florida about the possibility of a train stop in the Sunrise City. I wrote about it in, "Yay! Fort Pierce is pursuing a Brightline train stop" (July 27). 

I expected to be blasted by rail opponents. Just the opposite occurred. I heard from several people amenable to the idea of boarding the train in our region…
