The TC Palm: Poll: Should Treasure Coast governments pursue quiet zones?

Posted on August 14, 2015

Indian River and Martin counties have been locked in a legal battle with All Aboard Florida. Both are attempting to block the Miami-to-Orlando rail project, which is scheduled to begin running 32 daily trains through our region beginning in late 2017.

Given the opposition, many Treasure Coast officials have delayed making a decision on All Aboard Florida’s offer to help build quiet zones, federally-regulated safety upgrades that allow trains to zip through crossings without sounding their horns. However, the deal could be off the table soon, according to All Aboard Florida.

Recently, All Aboard Florida received authorization from the Florida Development Finance Corp. to sell $1.75 billion of tax-exempt bondsto help fund the project.
