DELRAY BEACH (CBS12) — Delray Beach police are investigating a woman hit and killed by an oncoming train.
The scene just north of Atlantic Avenue and NE 3rd Avenue at the FEC train tracks.
Officials say a 62-year-old Robin Brelsford Landes was hit by a train Wednesday evening near Atlantic Avenue after she tripped and fell while trying to walk across the tracks.
Her husband, 58-year-old William Francis Landes, who had been walking with her, tried frantically to pull her to safety as a southbound train barreled toward them, Delray Beach police said.
The couple had eaten dinner at Johnny Browns, an Atlantic Avenue restaurant on the east side of the Florida East Coast Railways tracks.
Just before 9:30 p.m., they walked west across the tracks about 50 yards north of Atlantic. As the train approached, the woman fell. Witnesses told detectives that her husband tried to get her off the tracks but was not able to. The train then hit the woman, killing her.
