Letter: On Treasure Coast route, All Aboard Florida is tragedy waiting to happen
All Aboard Florida must be stopped before something tragic happens. As a retired superintendent of schools my first concern is for the safety of children. One accident producing injuries or worse is one too many. The anguish would be far-reaching, affecting children and parents alike.
The ironic part is that any such possibilities could be avoided by moving the route to the western part of the Treasure Coast.
You ask, “Why isn’t this being done?” The answer is simple: money. The owners of this enterprise want to go forward as cheaply as possible. Safety be damned.
They will be using bridges and tracks that were installed many years ago. This infrastructure was not designed for high-speed trains, especially 32 a day. This will be an accident waiting to happen.
It is imperative that our county and state legislative representatives do everything in their power to stop this proposal in its tracks.
