Letter: St. Lucie County can’t afford not to join fight against All Aboard Florida
It’s official: St. Lucie County can’t afford to fight All Aboard Florida, reports the News Tribune. County Attorney Dan McIntyre and County Administrator Howard Tipton told the County Commissioners that the county could not commit 1 percent, or about $5 million, to a legal fight against it.
The reality is that St. Lucie County cannot afford not to join Indian River and Martin counties in this effort.
The negative impact All Aboard Florida will bring to the counties has been stated over and over in reports and editorials. The vast majority in the three counties opposes All Aboard Florida. This is a fight that needs to be fought now before it is too late.
I hope that the St. Lucie County Commissioners take the action needed to join Indian River and Martin counties against All Aboard Florida.
It is the responsibility of elected officials to take action in support of what the vast majority wants. Time is running out. We win this fight or the way of life along the Treasure Coast will be forever changed for the worst.
