Miami Herald: All Aboard Florida says train remains on schedule

The president of a proposed private passenger rail line from Miami to Orlando says the project remains on schedule, but not all will service at the same time.

Michael Reininger, the president and chief development officer of All Aboard Florida, said in a statement Tuesday that the train is slated to begin delivering service between Miami and West Palm Beach with a stop in Fort Lauderdale by the end of 2016.

Construction of the second phase of the project to connect central Florida would begin after the completion of an Environmental Impact Statement. Orlando would begin service by early 2017.

Last month, Gov. Rick Scott asked All Aboard Florida to extend public comment from 75 to 90 days, citing growing concerns in some Florida counties about the project’s environmental impact.
