Rebecca Negron can add Rep. Gayle Harrell to her list of backers.

On Tuesday, Harrell, a Stuart Republican, endorsed Negron in her congressional bid.

“Rebecca, like myself, is a longtime member of the Martin County community,” said Harrell in a statement. “Grounded in her conservative values, I know Rebecca will bring the issues that matter most to our community to the forefront.”

Harrell continued: “I am proud of her stance on opposing Common Core to ensure our children receive the best education possible, opposing All Aboard Florida, and any funding on its behalf, and strengthening our economy through fiscal responsibility and growing the job base. And, as someone who truly appreciates the beauty of Martin County’s natural resources, I know Rebecca will work to secure federal funding that will match funding available through Legacy Florida to stop harmful release from Lake Okeechobee and protect our environment.”

Negron is running in Congressional District 18, and is vying to replace Rep. Patrick Murphy, a Democrat. Murphy is running for U.S. Senate instead of seeking re-election.

Negron, a Martin County school board member, was first elected to the school board in 2012 and ran unopposed in 2014.

On Tuesday, she thanked Harrell for her support calling her “a trusted local Republican leader in our community.”

“I thank Representative Harrell not only for her encouragement, but for her dedication to the Treasure Coast we both proudly call home,” said Negron in a statement. “As I have said from Day One, I am committed to finding solutions to better Martin County.”

Negron continued: “We must keep education out of the hands of the federal government, ensure that local projects, such as the Indian River Lagoon, are given adequate attention and help fix our flawed foreign policies. Additionally, we must help our economy  grow and thrive through simplifying the tax code and creating jobs.”

Since getting in the race, Negron has received endorsements from several Treasure Coast officials. She’s also been endorsed by Maggie’s List. Congressional District 18 includes Martin, St. Lucie and Palm Beach counties.

Rebecca Negron is the wife of Senate President Designate Joe Negron.
